The Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) has been the distribution utility (DU) serving Bacolod City and Central Negros for several decades now. To say that the entire operation is already aging is an understatement. Recently, CENECO got into a joint venture agreement (JVA) with the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC), or Negros Power to improve the services of the Central Negros DU.

More heads (and hands) are better than one, as Negros Power and CENECO engineers and linemen work together to resolve problematic areas in the Central Negros DU coverage area.

Working Hand in Hand to Improve the Central Negros DU

While Negros Power is still waiting for the signature of the President of the Philippines to finalize its franchise, the company is showing the consumers that it is already more than ready to serve.

Not only have they set up their temporary office in Bacolod City, but the public has also seen them working together with CENECO in various parts of the coverage area. The past few weeks had been hectic for Negros Power and CENECO personnel, as they had already started the rehabilitation of equipment and facilities with the technical assistance of MORE Power. As you know, MORE Power is the sister company of Negros Power that is running the DU in Iloilo City. To help Negros Power start operations, MORE Power has sent a fleet of vehicles and linemen to augment the big work that has to be done in the Central Negros DU.

The Synergy

Engineers and linemen are happily working together to implement projects that will prevent further damage to already dilapidated CENECO substations. There is synergy to their efforts.

Last time, the personnel conducted Transformer Testing at the Panaogao Substation. They also performed Hotspot Correction on the stainless bolts, replacing them with Hot Dipped Galvanized as these are more durable and reliable in the long run. Moreover, they checked on the Bacolod-Silay 69kv transmission line and electrical posts.

These pro-active maintenance activities are aimed to prevent long and unscheduled brownouts in the area of coverage, which covers the Cities of Bacolod, Bago, Silay, and Talisay, and the Municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto.
