Today, March 6, 2025, a powerful tornado swept through the Murcia Road near the Negros Power substation, at approximately 2:00 PM. It was quite a big one that caused significant power disruptions in the area. Read more below.
When a Force of Nature Acts: Power Tornado in Murcia
The strong winds brought by the tornado resulted in power outages along the Bacolod-Alijis 69 kV sub-transmission line, affecting electricity supply to the Alijis and Murcia substations, as well as their respective feeders. Residents and businesses in the affected areas experienced sudden power interruptions as the extreme weather phenomenon passed through.

As of this time, there have been no reports of major structural damage to Negros Power’s facilities. However, initial assessments indicate that fallen tree branches and debris have been entangled in power lines. This would require immediate clearing and repair operations.
Always on the alert, Negros Power’s technical teams have been deployed to conduct thorough inspections, remove obstructions, and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
Engr. Mervin Dalian, Assistant Vice President of the Network Development and Operations Group at Negros Power, assured the public that their teams are working diligently to address the situation.
“So far wala pang nakita na malaking damage but we need to clear those line na may mga sumamblay na mga basura at puno,” said Engr. Dalian.
Negros Power urges the public to remain cautious and report any downed power lines or electrical hazards in their areas. The company also advises affected residents to stay updated through official announcements as restoration efforts continue.
