By now, you have probably heard about hyperbaric oxygen therapy or HBOT. It is a non-invasive, well-established medical treatment. In Bacolod City, this treatment is now available at the Advanced Hyperbaric Healthcare Center Bacolod. They are still on soft launch but you can already book your session with them. But what can you get from undergoing HBOT? Here are the different health benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and why you should try it if you have pre-existing conditions.

Many of us know that oxygen is vital for the survival of humans and animals. We know that we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. It used to be one of the most abundant elements in the atmosphere.
But because of modernization and the merciless cutting down of trees, oxygen levels are being rapidly depleted, especially in urbanized areas. Fresh air is no longer free and available and it is causing a lot of health concerns.
Lifestyle diseases have become very rampant among us Filipinos, like cancer, diabetes, hypertension, kidney failure, fatty liver, and heart disease.
Thankfully, technology has brought us the HBOT, which we can have at the Advanced Hyperbaric Healthcare Center Bacolod. The treatment allows patients to breathe in 100% oxygen under atmospheric pressure, which achieves maximum health benefits.
The following are the health benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, especially with regular treatments for those with existing health problems.
Increased oxygen delivery to injured tissues.
Called tissue hypoxygenation, it increases the amount of oxygen carried into the bloodstream. Oxygen can then effectively saturate tissues, lymphatics, and the cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and spine.
Best for cancer care and post chemotherapy care.
Cancer is a debilitating disease and treating it can lead to painful side effects. For one, patients experience fatigue and lose their energy after chemotherapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy revitalizes healthy cells and also restores energy.
Greater blood vessel formation.
Known as angiogenesis, this is the essential function of creating new blood vessels. With this process, the tissue cannot survive or undergo repair after injury.
Improved healing of wounds.
HBOT helps in the delivery and absorption of oxygen into all of the body’s fluids. It allows oxygen to permeate areas of the body where circulation has been reduced or blocked. This way, healing of wounds gets addressed on the cellular level. Many injuries or wounds caused by diabetes, surgery, or radiation may be healed faster with HBOT.
Antibacterial.
The body’s antibacterial activity is immediately increase when oxygen is flooded into the system. That way, our immune system gets strengthened.
Synergistic work with antibiotics.
Oxygen therapy helps increase the efficacy of antibiotics. Optimizing oxygen levels enhances the production of leukocytes that can naturally kill dangerous bacteria that infected the body.
Preservation of damaged tissues and stimulation of new bone formation
Inhaling pure oxygen has been shown to effectively mobilize stem cells and can result to enhanced tissue repair and regeneration.
Stimulate growth factors.
When oxygen saturates the body, it stimulates the release of growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing. Even the growth factors in blood platelets also become activated.
Reduces swelling (edema).
With the bombarding of oxygen into the body, the fluids that have been built up in the body can move through. Then they can be filtered and eventually eliminated. This process will reduce inflammation and swelling as well as improve blood circulation.
Relieves chronic pain.
Oxygen therapy reduces chronic pain, especially fibromyalgia syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, myofascial pain syndrome, migraine, and cluster headaches.
Addresses hypoxia.
Hypoxia is having decreased amounts of oxygen in the tissues and can be very dangerous. But the inhalation of 100% oxygen under pressure in a relaxed space will improve circulation. Blood will then carry much-needed oxygen to the cells and tissues.
Improves memory and cognitive function.
In a different light, hypoxia could contribute to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). With therapies like HBOT that improves oxygen supply in the tissues also improves hypoxic conditions in the brain. That is why experts report that HBOT may be an alternative therapy for Alzheimer’s and amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI).
Decreased risk of infection.
The therapy increases the production of superoxide dismutase, one of the body’s natural antioxidant and free radical scavenger. This will then increase the body’s ability to fight disease and infection.
Contraindications
Despite the positive health benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and its safety, there are certain contraindications. People with such conditions are advised against undergoing HBOT:
- Pulmonary conditions, such as pneumonothorax or hemothorax
- Pleural effusion of cardiogenic origin
- Pulmonary edema
- Emphysema
Moreover, please tell the doctor or nurses at the center if you have any of the following conditions or history:
- COPD
- Seizure disorder
- Pregnancy
- Claustrophobia or anxiety
- Asthma in acute stages
- Pacemaker device
- Recent cataract extraction
- Any surgical procedure (e.g. CVP, IJ, AV, fistula, etc.)
- Steroids (oral or as eyedrops)

Ang galing nman Po nito. Very systematic. Oxygen therapy. But Yung mga contagious n skit its a no no. Tama po na they need to consult their Doctor first. Thanks for sharing po Mommy Sig. ♥️
This treatment sounds interesting. I wonder if oxygen therapy can help with asthma.
I have honestly never heard of HBOT before but sounds like a super beneficial treatment. Sounds like it would be really helpful with cancer patients and people who are in recovery.
I have heard about this hyperbaric oxygen therapy. I might have to try it out and see how it works for me.
I have heard of HBOT but I wasn’t sure of its benefits. The two most important benefits I can see from your post is that it is anti-bacterial (with all kinds of diseases floating around ) and for providing relief to cancer patients.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can increase circulation and oxygenation, allowing the oxygen to build and repair damaged blood vessels, as well as triggering collagen growth, which leads to healing.
I haven’t heard about this therapy, but it seems a good option. I once remember one incident in China, where a town is selling their fresh rural air in a plastic bag coz it contains clean oxygen. many people bought them 🙂
Oh my gosh! What??? Why are people so gullible?
This is the first time i hear about HBOT, i would love to try it! Seems amazing, i hope i can find this treatment where i live.
Interesting! Thank you for introducing Hyperbaric oxygen therapy to me. I check to see if its available around my area.
Napakagaling po talaga nitong Hyperbaric health center..Napakadaming Benefits..
