Surpassing the darkest time in world history, Seda Capitol Central in Bacolod City is soaring past targets, as confirmed by Mr. Javi Hernandez, President and CEO of Ayala Hotels and Resorts Corp. (AHRC). Joining the MassKara Festival 2023 festivities, the hotel held an employees’ mask-making contest, participated by its different departments. Now in its 2nd year, this mask-making contest is proving to be a fun team-building activity as this Bacolod hotel joins in the city’s revelry.
Mask-Making Contest: A Fun and Relevant Team-Building Activity
Every October, Bacolod City celebrates the MassKara Festival with much fanfare and this year is no exception. Under the leadership of Bacolod Mayor Albee Benitez, more exciting events have been introduced, resulting in more memorable celebrations.
Seda Capitol Central also wants a piece of the action. Aside from being fully booked for the weeks of the MassKara Festival, the hotel wants to promote inclusivity among its employees by holding a mask-making contest before the festival highlights happen.
The staff divided themselves into teams per department and each one was given a basic molded mask to paint and embellish. Hotel Manager Kim Guimba started this last year as part of boosting employee morale when travel restrictions were being lifted and hotel rooms were starting to fill up. And this year, he said, “This is going to be our yearly tradition at Seda Capitol Central.”
Sustainable Masks
In the mask-making contest, the associates’ masks were not only creatively done. They were required to use recyclable and indigenous materials and to come up with sustainable mask designs. There were 3 major awards, with 2 teams tying in 3rd place.
In the end, the culinary group bagged the grand prize, with their mask that used a lot of discarded kitchen materials, such as yogurt cups, crushed eggshells, and apple wraps.
According to Ms. Keziah Guevarra, Assistant Director of HR and host of the event, the winners received a trophy, cash, and one complimentary stay in Seda Capitol Central Hotel. The masks were then displayed in the Hotel Lobby, which is now a favorite photo spot in the hotel.
