Genuine leather products are already commonplace in the market. But if you are a serious collector, you would appreciate bespoke leathercraft made of full-grain leather. This is exactly what Post No.2 Leather of Bacolod delivers— bespoke, hand-stitched leather products that you will surely be proud and happy to own and use.
Post No.2 Leather: Born Out of Passion
When something is produced out of need and keen interest, the passion and effort put into production usually brings out impeccable results. With this foundation, Post No.2 Leather was founded.
Vim Visitacion of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines, had the opportunity to work in Japan and eventually, in South Korea for many years. His job as Materials Manager led him to places and meeting rooms surrounded by top honchos of his field.
Back then, he already had a penchant for quality products made of good leather. As he went on business trips, he felt the need to own a high-quality, vintage-style leather bag custom-made for his needs.
At first, acquiring a good quality hand-stitched bag was just a whim. But as he traveled more frequently, Vim considered making his own, incorporating aesthetics and functionality to his customized leather bag. His design in mind was obviously not off-the-rack, as he knew what he wanted and needed for his travels. To do that, he searched for a good leather academy in Busan, South Korea, where he was stationed at that time. He was on the job from Mondays to Fridays and indulged in leathercraft on weekends for the remaining 4 years that he spent in Korea.
Only Hand-stitched Leather Products
Hand-stitching leather was very difficult. When he started, it did not cross Vim’s mind that leathercraft demands precision to the millimeter. He needed much concentration, constant practice, and a lot of TLC (tender, loving care). Even the minutest details count in leatherwork.
After years of dedication to improve his skills and craftsmanship, Post No.2 leather goods now are as comparable to an old trusty FJ40 Landcruiser: A piece of art. “This car may not possess a lot of tiny lights and plastic parts as any new car would have….but nothing fails”, Vim explains.
Post No.2 bespoke hand-stitched leather products are undeniably collectors’ items. That distinctive smell, with simple yet strong mechanisms—these are built to last. There’s just so much satisfaction in owning one of his leather creations.
The Vintage Style
Since Vim loves anything vintage, he has incorporated that taste in his bespoke leathercraft products. “It’s the kind of style that packs in character to an item as it ages,” Vim gushes. For avid collectors and leather users, this kind of style has been elusive of late. These products are not readily available in the market. “Nobody hand-stitches leather anymore. Most (manufacturers) are into fast fashion now, but unfortunately (they produce) low-quality goods,” he adds.
So this anemoia fueled Vim’s yearning to design and make leather items that are simple yet functional, elegant, and timeless. Leather items with simplicity as the core design, produced using 100% hand-stitching of high quality, full-grain leather, transcend through time. Each one is of heirloom quality, unique, and definitely, a keeper. That’s the promise of Post No.2 Leather.
About Genuine Leather vs Full-Grain Leather
The year 2020 brought an opportunity for Post No.2 Leather to inch its way to its intended pocket market in the leathercraft industry. It was slow for the reason that the minds of consumers had been tainted with the wrong notion that “genuine leather” is good leather.
Sadly, it is NOT. What the term “genuine leather” actually means is third-grade leather in the leathercraft lingo. It further means rubbish, but since it is cheaper, it is marketed like the material for high-quality leather goods.
First-grade leathers are the best and sought-after for those who really know (check the diagram below). Post No.2 Leather only uses Full Grain and Top Grain leathers, which assure customers of real quality.
Stitching Forward
Post No.2 Leather is positioning itself as a Filipino brand that seeks to slowly (but surely) expand in the local and international market.
Usually, expansion is equated to mechanization. However, using machines for the brand is not the way to go. They have to adhere to its core competency at all times: quality, hand-stitching only.
They acknowledge though that hand-stitching is difficult, time-consuming, and tedious, which is why Post No.2 Leather seeks to establish a cottage industry. With the support of an NGO or the “new” city government, they want to be able to provide livelihood opportunities for communities.
The company wants to be able to transfer the technology by training deserving housewives so that they can have a side hustle by hand-stitching leather products. With more stocks on hand, Post No.2 Leather will be able to customize more leather products and reach more markets.
