No electricity also means no water and the management of Negros Power understands how hard life can be without both very crucial utilities. Aside from expediting the replacement of the irreparable power transformer at the Alijis substation, Negros Power got a 10MVA mobile substation on loan from its sister company, MORE Power Iloilo. As for the water supply, the company also helped by providing generator sets to BACIWA Pumping stations. Read more.

Generator Sets Provide Back-Up Power to BACIWA Pumping Stations

To alleviate the inconveniences faced by the consumers affected by the deficiency of power supply at the Alijis Substation, Negros Power provided three generator sets to the pumping stations of Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA).

These specific pumping stations connected to the Alijis Feeder 3 lacked power generator sets essential for sustaining water supply during rotational brownouts.

Negros Power President and CEO Roel Z. Castro visited the Alijis Substation and BACIWA pumping stations last Sunday, August 25, 2025.

Mobile Substation

As of August 24, the 10 MegaVolt Amperes (MVA) Mobile substation and the 18MVA new power transformer have already been stationed and installed at the compound of the Alijis substation.

Preparations are being conducted, electrical testings and connections both from the 69KV transmission line of the NGCP and to the 3-phase automatic circuit reclosers to the Alijis feeder 3 and other feeders.

At first, the company announced that they expected the work to be finished by Monday evening. But as early as Monday morning, Negros Power finished the tasks needed to energize all the consumers of the Alijis substation so that rotational brownouts would no longer happen.

The Alijis substation supplies power to seven (7) feeders supplying electricity to more than 40,000 registered consumers. Negros Power has identified it to be in critical condition and is part of the substations that are programmed for rehabilitation under the 5-year rehabilitation plan of Negros Power.

The early demise of its 13-year-old power transformer last August 21 led to its early rehabilitation on top of six other substations owned by CENECO previously. These are now also breaching the standard threshold or are already reaching critical operational levels.

“We are doing something out of the ordinary, and our priority is to restore the power to all the consumers. I know the consumers will not be satisfied with this, but please give us the benefit of the doubt,” said Mr. Roel Z. Castro, President and CEO of Negros Power.
