Negros Electric and Power Corporation (NEPC) or Negros Power for short, is set to transform the energy landscape of Bacolod City and Central Negros in the Philippines. Last August 2024, it officially took over as the new electric distribution utility in the region after the endorsement of the President, the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC). With a commitment to modernization, efficiency, and improved service, Negros Power is poised to address long-standing concerns about power reliability and infrastructure. Their entrance into the scene makes them a major player in the development of Central Negros, as reliable electricity supply will surely entice investors to bring in fresh business into the region.

What Negros Power Brings to the Table
The new DU’s takeover has undertaken a long process — from a plebiscite to get the consumers’ consensus to a massive information drive. Here is what the company intends to deliver to its service area.
- Modernized Infrastructure – Negros Power is investing in upgrading substations, transformers, and power lines to reduce outages and improve energy distribution.
- Reliable Service – With a focus on preventive maintenance and system efficiency, customers can expect fewer disruptions and better response times. It has also introduced the use of the Automatic Circuit Recloser or the ACR, that will immediately reconnect power for minor connection problems.
- Customer-Centric Approach – Enhanced customer service channels and digital solutions will make billing, reporting concerns, and service requests more convenient. Customer support is a big part of the changes that consumers will be experiencing.
- Sustainable Energy Initiatives – NEPC aims to support renewable energy sources and integrate eco-friendly solutions into the power grid.
Addressing Past Challenges
Central Negros, under the Cental Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO), has faced numerous power supply challenges over the years, including frequent outages and aging infrastructure. Despite the progress of Bacolod City and other cities and municipalities, the capacity of CENECO remained the same, leading to frequent outages. It couldn’t cope with the developments, especially in real estate, and the needs of a robustly growing population.
Negros Power recognizes these issues and is committed to implementing long-term solutions to provide a stable and reliable power supply for homes and businesses.

The Future of Energy in Bacolod and Beyond
The entry of Negros Power signals a promising future for the region’s energy sector. By prioritizing modernization, customer satisfaction, and sustainable solutions, the new utility is set to reshape power distribution in Bacolod City and Central Negros. It is also bent on expanding its coverage area with its Sitio Electrication Program.
As the new DU continues to roll out its plans, residents and businesses can look forward to a more efficient and reliable power supply, driving economic growth and improving everyday life in the region.
However, management acknowledges that tremendous time and effort are needed to upgrade the system powering six (6) areas. The province’s challenging terrain and the threats of Mt. Kanlaon erupting are not helping the work either. With that, the company is asking for the consumers’ understanding as they work on the different areas, especially those they have identified as “hotspots,” or those areas on the verge of a serious breakdown.
