I am not really into Tagalog or Filipino romantic comedy movies because a lot of them are corny. Really, the good parts are only those that you see on the trailer and nothing else. But I made an exception with My Amnesia Girl.
To say that it is a great movie is an understatement. The script was well-written and I like the characters of John Lloyd Cruz and Toni Gonzaga in her street wear who was always lugging around a camera.
And the main actors were also great! John Lloyd is forever a heartthrob who can deliver moving performances. His cute baby face is always a plus. Toni, on the other hand, always proves to be versatile, from being a street-smart tomboy to being a classy fashion photographer all in one movie. There were also dramatic scenes that moved us and I really loved the play of emotions in the story.
I just have one problem with the movie—the chemistry of John Lloyd and Toni is quite off. Well, at least it seems for me. While both actors are great on their own rights and they delivered superb performances, I can’t really feel the chemistry between them. And to think that John Lloyd has already been paired with so many lady loves and the pairings were all fine.
It may just be me, and well, my husband. But it is a highly entertaining movie to watch. I have this one thing to say, if there is one thing in your life that you would rather forget, then play the part of an amnesiac and play that it works well for you. haha
My Amnesia Girl was directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and is said to be the highest grossing Filipino film of 2010. And I wouldn’t be surprised.
