From the onset of the information campaign for the JVA between CENECO and Negros Power to push through, one of the main points is the failing health of CENECO as a distribution utility for Bacolod City and Central Negros. Primarily, they lack the funding to rehabilitate equipment and substations plus, they no longer have the capacity to improve services. For the longest time, CENECO has been drowning and all the consumers could feel are the frequent power interruptions, high power rates, and really bad service. CENECO’s posts on Facebook are almost always met with either an angry face emoji or a laughing emoji, probably saying that CENECO’s service is a joke.
Help from Negros Power
Recently, we have learned that Negros Power has already opened the doors to its temporary business operations center located on the 2nd floor of the Robinsons Supermarket East in Bacolod City. Despite it being just temporary while their building is under construction, Negros Power put in the effort to set up a comfortable office for its employees as well as consumers.
Moreover, they have purchased supplies like new electric meters, concrete poles, cables, and transformers to replace old ones in preparation for Day 1.
The sister company, MORE Power of Iloilo City, also sent a fleet of vehicles to help out CENECO, especially in training Negros Power personnel.
A few days ago, there was a huge trouble in Bacolod City, resulting in an unscheduled power interruption in many areas. Negros Power already pitched in to help CENECO and thus the process of repairing and restoring power in affected areas was expedited.
“Today’s event represents a significant achievement for CENECO and consumers, made possible through the collaboration with our partner, Negros Power. We have successfully rehabilitated the Reclamation and Burgos substations, ensuring enhanced electricity delivery to our consumers.
“This proactive approach will minimize future disruptions, and we appreciate the support and understanding of our consumers during this maintenance. We are grateful to Negros Power for their valuable assistance with manpower, equipment, and expertise,” said Atty. Arnel Lapore, Acting General Manager of CENECO.
