Los Trez Amigos for Hearty Mexican Fare
Some hearty, authentic Mexican dishes, served in an air conditioned art deco cafe, at prices that are easy on the pocket. You can only find these all at Los Trez Amigos Mexican restaurant in Bacolod City.
Meeting Chef David Garcia
Chef David Garcia is a bubbly guy from Puerto Rico who married his Bacolodnon wife, Jasmin, and who decided to settle here in Bacolod City. If not for necessary travels back to his country, he would not go back, as he says he loves it here. He has stayed here for the last 15 years.
His penchant for making good food without the shortcuts is evident in the lovely dishes that they serve at his Bacolod restaurant, Los Trez Amigos. Additionally, he assures us of the quality of his food even though he is not around because his chef and staff are well-trained.
Los Trez Amigos
This relatively new Bacolod restaurant, serves flavorful and authentic Mexican fare and some American dishes. Chef David takes pride in the fact that they make everything from scratch, so they can guarantee the quality and freshness of the food that they serve.
Entering the cafe, bold colors will jump at you, owing to the Aztec and Puerto Rican theme of the place. Everywhere you look, there seems to be an Instagrammable corner bursting with color. One particular 3D wall mural features a calle in Puerto Rico that was painted by their daughter Shannon. She also did the rest of the artworks around the restaurant.
Top Favorites at Los Trez Amigos
Appetizers are already rich at Los Tres Amigos, like their colorful nachos platter that was assembled with each piece having its own toppings. You won’t have to worry about the bottom pieces not having any more meat toppings. Plus, it’s served with extra cheese sauce.
Then there’s Mexican pizza, which is actually already a complete meal in itself. This is actually made by a sandwich of two pieces of 10-inch flour tortillas filled with refried beans, ground beef, and a special sauce. It is topped with chopped lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, sausage, and red peppers. Finally, it is garnished with smoked paprika, pepper jack, and Colby cheese. This is served with a mildly spicy salsa and is very filling. Even after an hour on the table, the flour tortillas remain unbelievably crunchy.
Hickory Smoked Meats
The highlights of this Bacolod restaurant serving Mexican and American cuisine are their hickory smoked pork and chicken. They have chicken wings and oh-so-tender, flavorful, and juicy slabs of ribs. You should not miss this main course, which is usually eaten with their orange-colored Mexican rice.
You may order the ribs to go for only P600 per kilo (cooked weight).
Other Appetizers
Among other things that you should try are the tostones and empanadas. The tostones are fried plantains or saba bananas topped with some flavorful pulled pork, slices of imported sausage, and cheese. This is surprisingly good! Moreover, it is very affordable at P95 serving of 3.
Their empanadas come in three flavors–pork, chicken, and beef and is priced at only P100 for three pieces. Mind you, there are no extenders here–just pure meat plus herbs and spices.
Citrus Cheesecakes for Desserts
While Bacolod City is known for its rich, luscious and sweet desserts, Los Trez Amigos veers from the conventional. They feature only cheesecakes for desserts, which are all citrus-flavored.
Chef David explains that there is a science to his choice of sweets to feature. His dishes are already very rich and flavorful and he says the best way to cleanse the palate is to have tart desserts. So he said that he wants his clients satisfied but refreshed enough after the meal that they would want to keep coming back because they do not find the food cloying.
I have to agree with his hypothesis. I did have a different feel in my mouth after sampling the three kinds of cheesecake flavors and a glass of lemonade. It is rather refreshing and satisfying. Furthermore, I did not feel burpy and heavy even after eating such a heavy meal.
Many people in our party preferred the lime pie. However, I totally obsessed over the lemon cheesecake pie.
Exclusive Parties
The restaurant, which can comfortably seat up to 60 people, accommodates exclusive gatherings, especially during Mondays and Tuesdays, when they are closed to the public. Many people have already held their private functions here, like birthdays and anniversary celebrations.
