The pandemic crushed so many people’s dreams. But somehow, the strongest and more resilient among us managed not only to survive but to progress in life. One such strong and kind-hearted businesswoman is Grace Constantino of Talisay City, Negros Occidental. Staying true to the saying, “Go big or go home,” Ms. Constantino opened the doors of her upscale restaurant, Gracia’s Restorante, which is standing tall and proud near the new Talisay City Hall. Read more about what you can expect from this new restaurant.
How Gracia’s Restorante Came to Be
Ms. Constantino, whose name means favor or God’s blessing, has grown up with good food, thanks to her mom who enjoys cooking for the family. Her growing up years and her travels expanded her palate, and she dreamed about having her own restaurant one day.
Then the COVID-19 pandemic happened. Grace’s relatives lost their jobs and she thought of how she can help them. She knew that dole-outs would not last long and she can only do so much to support them. So she opened Gracia’s Kitchenette, also in Carmela Valley in Talisay City. She employed relatives, extended families, and friends and served comfort food for delivery during the pandemic.
The demand for her homecooked meals grew and Grace knew that she needed to step out in faith. Grace’s new baby, Gracia’s Restorante, is a play on her name that figuratively translates to the restaurant being a blessing to their clan.
The high-ceiling and elegant interiors of Gracia’s Restorante give the place a classy feel but the menu certainly brings you back home.
Specialties at Gracia’s Restorante
Gracia’s Restorante held a media night before the soft opening where we got to sample their cooking. They served bakareta, chicken galantina, crispy pata, hickory pork, and seafood pasta with white sauce. It was buffet-style. There was also vegetable soup and vegetable salad as well as a charcuterie board. The spirits were overflowing.
Needless to say, the cooking and presentation were both good. Our cravings for these popular dishes were satisfied. Moreover, the service crew is pretty well-trained and eager to serve. The live music they had that night added to the cheerful atmosphere (party for the tita crowd, haha).
But when I saw their final menu for opening, I gasped at how extensive their offerings are. Executive chef Joel Constantino explained that their food is a mix of Filipino and Mediterranean cuisine, but he also has vegetarian dishes for those who are on a plant-based diet.
A reader of my blog who is familiar with their old place at Gracia’s Kitchenette commented that their pizzas are also very good. That will be reserved for our next visit with the family.
All in all, what I can say is, Gracia’s Restorante may be a physically new restaurant, but it is just a bigger and better version of an already successful food business. Their staff have experienced working in the past and have also been re-trained for their new operations. So, no need to worry, go ahead and book a table.
