Victorias Milling Company (VMC) has long been actively pursuing a role in developing societies through the youth. One of their notable programs is the art contest. This year, the 4th VMC Interschool Art Competition is bigger because it covers schools in the Negros Island Region (NIR).
Last Monday, October 3 2016, the entries from different schools were unveiled in an art exhibit held at the atrium of the SM City Bacolod. The participants who came from both public and private schools all over the region were divided into three categories: elementary, high school, and tertiary (with specified age brackets).
For each category, five winners were chosen, two runners-up and three major winners. The major winners for each category won P10,000, P15,000, and P20,000 in cash for the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st placers plus a trophy. The consolation prize winners got P5,000 each. The winners of the tertiary level received art materials in preparation for an art exhibit in April next year. They will also undergo an intensive art workshop. Meanwhile, the schools of the first prize winners got computer packages from VMC.
The awarding ceremony was held last October 8 at the SMX Convention Center. The formal event aimed not just to announce the winners but to celebrate art and the works of young artists.
Ms. Anne Tiongco, Corporate Communications Director of VMC said in her welcome address that their company cares so much for the youth as well as in preserving art and culture in the province. This event is just one of their efforts to cultivate art in the consciousness of the youth. VMC President and COO Eduardo Concepcion encouraged the young artists to carry on with their passion in the art. “We honor your brilliance,” he says.
The City of Victorias is likewise very supportive of art events in order to give young artists a venue to showcase their talents. Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca said that he is very happy that VMC has partnered with the city for this endeavor.
